Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas (JNVs) are a system of school for talented students in India.
LIST OF FACTS ARE:---
1. They have a dedicated matrimonial section for JNV staff, which aims at facilitating marriage within themselves.
2. There are approximately 596 JNVs across India (as many as there are districts in India) as of 2014.
3. The percentage of students in JNVs belonging to SC/ST categories is well above national norms.
5. An entrance exam, Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya Selection Test (JNVST), is conducted by CBSE annually for admission to JNVs.
6. JNVs are only schools in India which provide free education including boarding and lodging as well as expenses on Uniform, Text Books, Stationery etc. are given to students.
7. All JNVs lay immense emphasis on sports.
8. JNV specifically aims at providing quality education to talented rural children within a residential school system.
9. There is a dedicated website meant exclusively for JNV alumni.
10. Maximum 80 students get admission to class VI per year in JNV.
11. In JNVs, 75% of the seats are reserved for rural area students and 25% for urban area students.
      One-third seats are reserved for girl students and there is 3 per cent reservation for differently-abled students.
12. Only general category male students from Class IX to XII and students not below poverty line are charged Rs.200 per month in welfare of Vidyalayas called Vidyalaya Vikas Nidhi.
13. First Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya was set up in Amravati in Maharashtra in 1985.
14. Students are accommodated in four houses (hostels): Aravali, Nilgiri, Shivalik and Udaigiri, named after prominent mountain ranges in India.
15. JNVs lays extra emphasis on linguistic abilities. It ensures students learn at least three languages.
16. JNV has an internal student-exchange programme.
        Select 30 per cent of IX standard students are exchanged between JNVs of non-Hindi speaking region and Hindi speaking region for one year.
17. JNV has a unique Art in Education Programme.
18. The implementation of Samsung Smart Lab has brought a technological sea-change in the way teaching is done in many JNV schools.
19. ‘Hami Navodaya Hain’ is the prayer song of JNVs.
